So often, people of God become accustomed to an experience in worship which involves favorite songs or hymns which touch the soul, trigger wonderful memories of great moments, even seasons, in their Christian experience. Certain songs or choruses may often provoke corporate responses---such as prophetic utterances, warfare rallies, dances, tears, laughter, and so much more. However, if we’re not careful, we forget to consider asking a proverbial question---“God, what would You like to hear? What will gladden Your heart?" I believe that, being the committed Father that He is, our God would like to hear His children sing expressive songs which speak TO Him instead of just ABOUT Him. Worship is, after all, ALL about Him---not about us.
Worship is obviously much more than a Sunday morning singing experience---WORSHIP IS A LIFESTYLE. We worship God with the way we live our lives, with the choices that we make, with the responsible---even Scriptural handling of our finances, with the way we treat our fellow man. Even so, YES, we also definitely worship God with our audible, heartfelt, hearty statements---both musical and also declarative.
“Make a joyful shout TO {not only about} the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing…Enter into His gates {not only the church gates but all of life’s ‘gates’} with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.” (Psalms 100:1-4)
Notice the beautifully progressive nature of worship. It begins with thank-filled praise, it progresses to honor-filled worship, and it proceeds towards a deep level of personal conversation with Almighty God---All because you were willing to navigate through a glorious, spiritual journey INTO HIS PRESENCE.
